“Off Season” Anything But Idle for Haas CNC Racing

Preparations for Haas CNC Racing’s 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season get into full swing this week as both the No. 66 and No. 70 teams hit the track at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Ga., for two days of testing Dec. 4-5. Joining them will be Haas CNC Racing’s new test team which will test independently of the No. 66 and No. 70 throughout the season.

“We are in a good position to build on the success we had with the COT last season,” said Haas CNC Racing Competition Director Matt Borland. “The best way for us to accomplish that is by logging extensive test laps and gaining as much data as possible. In that regard not only will the dedicated test team be a huge asset during the off season, but when the No. 66 and 70 teams get busy with the race season the work of the test team will be indispensable,” he said. Borland said that for the most part the test team will use the services of outside drivers.
At South Georgia the No. 70 team will be testing chassis No. 448 with driver Jeremy Mayfield while the No. 66 team will put chassis No. 429 through the paces with driver Scott Riggs. The test team will work with chassis No. 445 and driver Chad McCumbee.

Haas CNC Racing’s ambitious test schedule will then see the test team travel to the GM Proving Grounds in Phoenix, Ariz., Dec. 7-9 with chassis No. 406 and a driver to be determined. Following that the No. 70 team with Riggs driving chassis No. 429 and the test team with chassis No. 448 will take to the road course at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va., Dec. 12-13.

A busy month of January features the No. 66 team testing at Daytona International Speedway Jan. 7-9 and then heading to Lakeland, Fla., Jan. 10-11. The No. 70 team will have it’s turn at Daytona Jan. 14-16 before both teams head to Las Vegas Motor Speedway Jan. 28-29 and California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., Jan 31-Feb. 1.
