Untimely Caution
Costs No. 66 Team
Avondale, Ariz. (April 14, 2008) – Scott Riggs finished Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway in 26th place, one lap down.
Riggs, in the No. 66 Haas Automation Chevrolet, started the race in the 10th position on the starting grid and reported early on in the race that he had a decent car. Riggs soon began battling handling troubles through the corners but still he was able to keep the No. 66 near the Top 20.
While coming down pit road for a green-flag stop on Lap 115, the caution flag came out for an accident and Riggs went a lap down before he was able to exit. Handling in the corners continued to be an issue for the remainder of the race and Riggs brought the car across the finish line in 26th.
“It’s frustrating. We tested well, practiced well – had a good qualifying run, but then finished 26th,” Riggs said. “On the positive side, we picked up three spots in owners points. That’s something we can take away from the weekend to build on.”
The No. 66 team is 28th in owner points heading into an off weekend. The team’s next race is the Aaron’s 499 on April 27 at Talladega.
