Mayfield Finishes 39th at Atlanta
ATLANTA (March 10, 2008) -- Jeremy Mayfield finished 39th in yesterday’s running of the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
After starting the race in the 36th position on the grid Mayfield battled an ill-handling car throughout the race. Mayfield’s crew made major chassis adjustments to the car on pit road, but the car never came around to Mayfield’s liking.
“I’m really proud of the work my team did today,” Mayfield said. “They never gave up and kept fighting for me all day long. We just never hit on the set up and the car was really loose the whole race. I had no wheel at all through the corners and was turning right most of the time to keep from wrecking.
“Unfortunately you’ll have days like this in racing,” Mayfield said. “We need to put it behind us and focus on Bristol.”
Following the 39th-place finish here, Mayfield finds himself 34th in driver points and the No. 70 Haas Automation team is 34th in the owner points standings.
The team next travels to Bristol Motor Speedway for Sunday’s running of the Food City 500. The race will be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 2 p.m. and on local PRN affiliates.
